Yo! MTV Raps is turning 20 years old

That’s right 20 years old. After looking into the incoming traffic on Concert Panther’s Band of Horses review from an MTV blog I started looking around the site and I found a Sucker Free blog post on the new Yo! website launching.

Are they bringing Yo! MTV Raps back? Well it doesn’t look that way but they are celebrating, starting next month, the 20th anniversary of Yo!. I used to watch this show religiously. The antics were great and the artists were even better. I actually sat down sometime in the past year and watched and entire special on Yo! to wax nostalgic. Here’s a snippet from the site about the celebration:

GRANT GOULD IS TOTALLY AWESOME

Grant is a decorated pencil-slinger who’s line work has received much praise since he quit his day job and became a full time artist. I met him on the internet a few years back and have been consistently felled by the power of his strokes (and not in a gay way!) ever since. Some of the projects he’s worked on include:

Dude’s got talent! I appreciate him dropping a link to us :)

Grant, buddy - this track is dedicated to you and the exceedingly envious life you’ve built for yourself. It’s about a young girl named Lucy who spent her every waking moment drawing. She drew, drew, and drew, to a point that some would say was to the detriment of all other facets of her existence. She created art until her hands were gnarled and useless, but she wasn’t “living her dream”, as you’ll hear in the lyrics - she had become what she desired. It’s a linear tale of a strong life chosen, where passion and living become the same thing and are expressed in great abundance, from inception to death. It’s probably one of my all time favorite songs. I hope you get a kick out of it.
